…għax Kważi Utopija Jien

Għax kważi utopija jien.

Prim ingredjent. Prim kondiment

li jolqot l-għajn u jwieti.

Għalik indispensabbli

bħad-demm jorbita l-vini.

Għalija nkramt. Tipproduċini

biex tgħallini jew tixwini

u jien, għerq niedi,

serva umli tal-umanità wikkiela

ma niddiżappuntakx.

Bil-qoxra jew mingħajrha

xorta nissodisfak.

Il-laqgħat tagħna nżommu

ta’ spiss madwar l-imwejjed

bħall-irjus kbar

mitlufa f’diskussjoni

jirhanu lil pajjiżhom

għal loqma u ponn prestiġju

u bħalhom nitlaħalħu

bin-nogħra tal-imbejjed

u għax kważi utopija

jien daqshom imfittxija.

…because I’m almost a Utopia

Because I’m almost a utopia.

A fine ingredient and accompaniment.

I am beneficial and striking to the eye.

To you I am essential

like blood tracking your veins.

You crave me and reproduce me,

then you boil or roast me,

a humid tuber,

humbly serving insatiable humans.

I wouldn’t disappoint you.

With the peel or without

I always satisfy you.

Often we’d gather around tables

like top dogs

lost in discussion

puppetting their country

for a morsel and some repute.

Like them we’d be inebriated

and being almost a utopia,

like them, I’m much in demand.
